It seems the worst is true for Notebook and McGosling fans around the world. News broke today that Ryan confirmed the breakup to GQ magazine. Here is an excerpt:

Sometime after The Notebook wrapped, Gosling and his costar Rachel McAdams started dating. The movie won them a Teen Choice Award for Best Kiss, and they reenacted their winning lip-lock onstage in front of screaming fans. Gosling, in a DARFUR T-shirt, looked like the happiest dude on Earth. They were young and famous and famously in love—recall, if you will, Saturday Night Live’s “Lazy Sunday” skit, in which Andy Samberg raps about loving cupcakes “like McAdams loves Gosling”—and the degree to which strangers felt a personal stake in the relationship creeped Gosling out.

“I mean, God bless The Notebook,” Gosling says. “It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.”

They broke up, is the thing. It’s been a few months. Gosling says it wasn’t the attention that did it, but other than that he doesn’t really know what to say. “The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin’ and we called it a draw,” he says.

The Notebook people have taken it harder. “Women are mad at me,” Gosling says with a rueful smile. “A girl came up to me on the street and she almost smacked me. Like, ‘How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?’ I feel like I want to give people hugs, they seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we’re consoling everybody else.”

I am speechless. So much of me hoped that the rumors were not true. I really thought they were just trying to protect their privacy by not talking about things. I mean I just posted yesterday that Ryan said that he wasn't going to talk about the relationship. Now this comes out. It is hard to know what to think.

Nobody's Business

In a recent interview, while promoting his upcoming movie "Lars and the Real Girl", Ryan Gosling answers the question on why he doesn't like to comment on his love life:

"Look, it's no big business. It's weird to ask. It's bizarre. Any other situation when a perfect stranger comes up to you and asks you intimate details about your personal life you'd knock 'em out, you know? But in this business you gotta be gracious and say they're outta line. It's nobody's business. I'm not asking you those questions and you shouldn't ask me those questions. It's completely outta line. And not only that, it's disrespectful to the girl that you're with, you know? People want to know intimate details about these women because they have some kind of sick need-to-know, and I'm not going to facilitate that. And aside from that, it makes it hard to do your job..."

He goes on to say that he isn't trying to be mysterious but that he is concerned that if the audience knows too much about him they won't believe the characters that he is trying to portray.

My impression from reading between the lines of this interview is that the "girl that you're with" is Rachel. Who else could he be referring to? Do they ask him about anyone else?

Just to clarify--we don't need intimate details about their relationship. We just want to know if there IS a relationship. A few new pictures would be great too. :)

No News Is Good News, Right!!???

Over at Lainey Gossip , Lainey has just posted an article from Hello Canada featuring an interview with Ryan Gosling. It is a scanned copy of the article so it is hard to make out all the text.

The key question that everyone wants to know is:

Hello Canada: On the subject of love...are you still with Rachel? We hear conflicting stories.

Ryan: No Comment on that one. Thank you very much.

Is it just me or do most people only reserve the "no comment" response for when they are trying to hide something? So, what are they hiding: the relationship or the break-up ?? I appreciate their need for privacy, really I do, but come on now. Enough is enough--just give us an answer. One word would be fine--Yes or No. Is that so difficult??!!!!

Here Comes The Bride

Is this a preview of Rachel and Ryan's wedding day (I hope!!!!)? No, Rachel is just filming a scene for her new movie The Time Travelers Wife.

Doesn't Rachel make a beautiful bride??!!! Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come....

Wouldn't They Have Looked Great Together??!!

Although they did not attend each other's premieres (Ryan in LA for Lars and the Real Girl and Rachel in Toronto for Married Life), there was one interesting feature worth noting.

It was brought to my attention (by a rather astute observer) that Rachel and Ryan wore the exact same color combination to their respective movie premieres. Are they trying to send us a secret message that they are still together? Probably not, but is sure is an interesting coincidence.

Either way, this side by side makes it fun to imagine how adorable they would have looked together on the red carpet. :)
